Well… I’ve been harvesting produce from my garden. Everything looks great! Cucumbers, carrots, green beans, tomatoes, cilantro and basil. Aside from a few nibbles taken by the rabbits, deer and any other kind of critter that feels entitled to help themselves.
Some of these guys are so bold – I think they just sit out of sight and watch me working in the garden and after I harvest, replant and weed, they must think I do it all for them. The other day I picked some cucumbers and tomatoes and went into the house to get something to carry my harvest in. When I returned not five minutes later, I discovered that someone took a nice nibble out of the best and ripest tomato. Oh well… I thought that might happen - so I planted enough to share with everyone.
I shooed a rabbit and a few deer away the other day knowing they would be back as soon as I went in. I truly enjoy working in the garden and as crazy as this may sound, I wish there were more weeds. I love weeding.

There are lots of things we can do to save money and at the same time be environmentally sound.
I planted a larger garden this year adding more vegetables and fun foods to harvest like cilantro, parsley, onions, carrots, beans, tomatoes and basil. I also planted squash and cucumbers very close to the bean plants so when the beans are done being harvested, I can pull them up just in enough time to give the viney squash plants the room they need to grow. I also planted extra for my friends and neighbors. They all love having fresh stuff right out of the garden. It’s also fun and rewarding to actually harvest your own crops instead of paying top dollar at the big health food chain.
I planted a variety of flowers around the perimeter of the garden as well. There’s nothing like having fresh cut flowers on the table while you’re enjoying the bountiful harvest from your garden.

Saving energy is crucial in these uncertain times. With the Wall Street mess and economy in turmoil, we just don’t know when it will rebound and how bad it will get before it all turns around.
There are so many easy ways to save energy that really aren’t costly. Low energy light bulbs are one way. Running a fan instead of an air conditioner helps on the electric bill and with winter coming on, heating is another issue. If you keep your home at a comfortable temperature during the time when you are home and shut the heat of when you are not home really helps on the utilities.
There are other things such as insulation and replacement windows. These energy saving improvements will make a huge difference in your utility bills. There is that initial investment but in the long run, it will save you a substantial amount of money.
Make sure you get out and vote!
